Scholarships

ND-BG is proud to offer the following scholarships to our students on an annual basis. Many are named for notable alumni, teachers, and/or generous benefactors:

The Peggy Ciesinski Scholarship Endowment

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student who is voluntarily involved in community service and demonstrates a need for financial assistance.  The recipient receives $600.00 towards tuition at ND-BG.

The friends and family of Peggy Ciesinski Hennessy, class of Notre Dame 1969, established this endowed scholarship in honor of Peggy in September 2004.  They support this scholarship as an everlasting testament to Peggy, for they were forever and profoundly changed by her life, love, and friendship.

Peggy spent most of her life giving to other . . . not through material gifts but in ways that made us all realize that God and goodness live among us.  She went about her day caring for family, working and volunteering her time for those not as fortunate as she was.  In 2003, while crossing the finish line for “Race for the Cure for Breast Cancer,” a race she did voluntarily, not because she had cancer, her life was taken from her.

Sr. Dolores Hanlon Endowment Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student entering the 9th grade who shows an aptitude for science, considering pursuing a career in science, and demonstrates a need for financial assistance.  The recipient receives $1,000.00 towards tuition at ND-BG.

The Sr. Dolores Hanlon Scholarship was established by a former student.  Sister was an amazing chemistry teacher at Notre Dame High School.  Her dedication to her class involved running review classes outside of school, she had much consideration for the education of her students and her immeasurable effort  toward her students was dynamic and far above the expected, leaving a lasting impression on her students.

King Family Scholarship

This scholarship of $2,000 will be awarded to two 9th graders attending Notre Dame – Bishop Gibbons School.  Each student will receive $2,000 per year and it will continue to be awarded to these students throughout his/her four years of high school provided he/she continues to meet the given criteria.  The scholarship is to be offered first to a student of St. Anthony’s or St. John the Evangelist Parishes, given there is a student affiliated with one of these parishes and meets the given criteria.  In the event that there is not a 9th grader affiliated with one of these two parishes, nor a student affiliated with one of these two parishes who meets the criteria, then the scholarship may be awarded to a student affiliated with a church.

The recipient must be:

(1) in good academic standing;

(2) an active member of his/her church is preferred but a service to community may be considered.  Because Notre Dame – Bishop Gibbons is a non-parish 6th – 12th grade school, and the scholarship is to be awarded to a 9th grader, parish involvement may be substituted for involvement with the ND-BG Campus Ministry service program;

(3) and must be in financial need.

Thomas J. Maguire Financial Assistance Scholarship

Mr. MaguireThe Thomas J. Maguire Financial Assistance Scholarship was created from the estate of Tom Maguire, math teacher for both Bishop Gibbons High School as well as Notre Dame – Bishop Gibbons School from 1966 until his sudden passing in 2008.  After 42 years of teaching, this scholarship was created in honor of Mr. Maguire’s dedication to, and strong belief in, Catholic school education.

This scholarship is awarded to a full-time student, within grades 6-12 at Notre Dame – Bishop Gibbons School and demonstrates a need for financial assistance.  This recipient will be awarded $500.00 towards tuition here at ND-BG.

Alumni Mothers Association Scholarship

The Alumni Mothers Association Scholarship is sponsored by all the hard work of the Alumni Mothers Association who each year holds luncheon and dinner events in an effort to raise money for the students of ND-BG.

The mother’s scholarship is awarded to a current student whose family has suddenly fallen on hard times and can no longer afford the cost of tuition.  The amount awarded varies on the capable donation of the Alumni Mother’s Association.

James Merryweather, Jr. Scholarship

This scholarship was created in honor of James, Merryweather, Jr., Bishop Gibbons Class of 1962, Board of Trustees Member, and President of the ND-BG Alumni Association, for his years of service and dedication to re-establishing our Alumni Association.  It was his dream to create a scholarship sponsored by the Association in an effort to help aid students in financial need.

The scholarship is awarded by the Alumni Association to an ND-BG male student.  It awards a $500 scholarship to a student entering the 6th or 9th grade and is active in our school as well as in need of financial assistance.

Cora Nigriny Buttridge Scholarship

This scholarship was created in honor of Cora Nigriny Buttridge of Notre Dame Class of 1964.  Cora played an integral part in revitalizing the Alumni Association.  Her work and dedication as Treasure was just the start of years of stewardship to the Association.

The scholarship is awarded by the Alumni Association to an ND-BG female student.  It awards a $500 scholarship to a student entering 6th or 9th grade and is active in our school as well as in need of financial assistance.

ND-BG Teachers & Staff Scholarship

The Faculty and Staff at ND-BG believe in the education of our students so much that this year, in an effort to allow more deserving students become Golden Knights, they have created a scholarship.  Each faculty and staff member will pay $50 per quarter and have a dress down each Friday where they wear one of our faculty t shirts.

All money raised will be used to help two individual students entering Notre Dame –Bishop Gibbons from a Catholic Elementary School.  The student(s) needs to demonstrate a desire to continue his or her education in Catholic Education and his or her family needs to be in need of financial assistance.

Alumni Tuition Reduction Program

We are proud of our alumni and the parents/guardians they have become.  Here at ND-BG we honor our Golden Knight parents who carry on the tradition of sending their child and children to ND-BG with an Alumni Tuition Reduction Program.  This offers any graduate of Bishop Gibbons, Notre Dame, or Notre Dame – Bishop Gibbons with a child or children enrolled, two percent off tuition!!!!
