Announcing the new Principal of ND-BG: Mr. Kiante Jones

May 16, 2018

Dear Notre Dame – Bishop Gibbons School Community,

It is our privilege to announce that Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger has appointed Mr. Kiante Jones as the new principal to lead Notre Dame – Bishop Gibbons School. We are extremely pleased to welcome such a talented and experienced educator to the ND-BG community, and are confident he will serve with the excellence and integrity that define ND-BG.

Mr. Jones will begin as principal on July 1, 2018. We are planning a reception and open house to formally welcome him, to which all ND-BG staff, families and students will be invited. We will be issuing invitations once the time, date and location are confirmed. In the meantime, please join us in offering him a warm welcome.

While new to Notre Dame – Bishop Gibbons, Mr. Jones has a long and successful history as a teacher and administrator at Capital Region schools, and most recently served as assistant principal at Mater Christi School in Albany, working primarily in the middle school.

He previously was the principal at Mont Pleasant Middle School in Schenectady, led the Troy High Summer School Program in Troy, and was the assistant principal at Newburgh’s South Middle School in Orange County. He began his career in education as a social studies teacher, first in Hoosick Falls and then in Troy.

Mr. Jones earned a master’s degree in Secondary Education from the University at Albany, and is a certified New York State School Building Leader and New York State School District Leader. He is studying for his doctorate in Educational Administration and Policy Studies at the University at Albany.

A resident of Albany and communicant at All Saints Parish, he and his wife have four children.

We want to thank Pat Moran and Ritch Harrigan who both stepped up to fill the roles of interim principal and interim assistant principal, respectively, since January. Mr. Moran and Mr. Harrigan have done a remarkable job helping to lead the school during this time of transition.

Mr. Jones has spent his career in education focused on students and helping them live up to their full potential. We know he will bring that same passion and commitment to Notre Dame – Bishop Gibbons, and we trust you will find him an excellent leader.

Sincerely,

Very Rev. Robert Longobucco                                                     Giovanni Virgiglio, Jr.

Vicar for Catholic Faith Formation & Education                   Superintendent of Catholic Schools
